The itinerary
Day 1 - Thursday evening
Distance cycled: 0 km

Arrival day! You'll need to arrive on the Thursday night ideally by 6pm into Whitehaven train station. Keep an eye out for our 'not so discreet' support vehicle. Will set up a whatsapp group between all of us on the trip and been there to meet you at the station.

We'll head out on the town in Whitehaven, where we'll be booked into a local restaurant. We'll ensure all your dietary requirements are met. We'll whisk your bikes and bags back to the hotel whilst we get to know each other over a bevy and some food. When our appetites are fully sated the support crew will return to ferry us back to the hotel and rest.

The Accommodation

We'll be staying our first night at Summergrove Halls, just outside Whitehaven. We'll be staying in private single rooms, ensuring that our first night sleep in a good one, so we're all well rested for the mornings adventures!

Day 2 - Friday
Distance cycled: 72 km / 45 m

After a restful night and a hearty breakfast we'll head back down to Whitehaven Habour for the traditional dipping of the back wheel into the Irish Sea.

Then we're off!

Our first days ride will take us through the stunning Lake District. We'll aiming tp meet the van for lunch in Keswich, down past the theatre by the lake. It's an excellent lunch spot and the van will be there preparing a feast.

The afternoons ride will take us the rest of the way through the Lakes to Penrith.

The Accommodation

Tonight we'll be getting cosy and connected with nature, staying in boutique wooden pods in an apple orchard. The pods sleep 4 on single beds, there is a little kitchenette to make yourselves a hot drink, and plenty of warm showers to ensure you're ready for a rest in the wild.

Day 3 - Saturday
Distance cycled: 83 km / 52 m

Up early to the sound of the bird song among the orchard, we'll bid goodbye the the Great Lakes and say hello to the hills of the Pennines.

Today is a day of two halves; the morning has a lot of climbing as we enter the Pennines. We'll be stopping for lunch halfway before beginning the long and epic descent out of the Pennines towards the sea.

The Accommodation

Our destination today is Edumndbyers where we'll be staying in the local hostel in dorms. We'll cook up a storm and raise a glass in the local pub, solidifying new friendships formed.

Day 4 - Sunday
Distance cycled: 51 km / 30 m

We'll be freewheeling any aches and pains out of our legs this morning as we roll down towards the sea from the height of the Pennines.

We'll pass through Newcastle along the Tyne, pasted the bustling weekend food markets - a great opportunity for a snack!

As we pass through Newcastle we'll be following the cycle path all the way to Tynemouth where we'll dip our front wheels in the North Sea at the harbour.

We'll be hosted by the incredible Riley's Fish Shack, an award winning sustainable fish restaurant right on the beach, for a late lunch. Don't eat fish? Not to worry, we can create a veggie option.

The Departure

Another day done, we'll relax on the beach for as long as we need, maybe even going for a dip. The cold warm will do your thighs of steel the world of good!

Your words, not ours...

I had so many doubts to my cycling abilities before embarking on an adventure with Brake the Cycle. I'm so, so glad I went for it - The crew and my fellow cyclists couldn't have been more supportive and I ended up having one of the most memorable 3 weeks of my life. I loved every aspect of the tour - the route, the food, the camping & accommodation, the team, the ethos, and all the wonderful new friends I've made. Brake the Cycle put so much thought, effort and love into their trips and I really can't say enough to thank them for it!
